Melinda (Molloy) Moore, CVHS Class of 1975, and chair of the "Save the Oak Trees" committee of the CVHS Parent/Faculty Club, has accomplished the following and now needs your help to complete the project:
  • Pennie Rose, certified arborist and member of the Concord Parks and Recreation Commission, examined the tree shortly after it was vandalized.  Ms Rose determined there were several things that could be done to improve the chances to save the tree.

  • In order to allow the tree to "breathe" properly, several volunteers, including a crew from Ms Rose's enviro-scape business, removed approximately a third of the cement pavers that had been placed at the base of the tree.

  • Additionally, it was determined that when the school was constructed, about three feet of the trunk of the tree had been buried.  The excess soil has been removed with the help of a bobcat that was donated by Wally's Rental Center

Next Steps:

  • Spread compost that was donated by Yardbirds Home Center.

  • Improve the drainage around the tree.

  • Construct a sitting wall around the tree.

  • Graft damaged areas of the tree.

Will you please add your name to those who have given of their time and made donations?

Melinda has received some donations, and sold several of the pavers as mementos, in order to raise money to cover costs of materials, but she could use your help to ensure this project has a successful completion.
